Celebrating Rudolf Steiner
The Anthroposophical Society of Greater Boston will be holding an evening in honor of Rudolf Steiner's 150th birthday here at the Waldorf School of Lexington on Saturday, March 5, 6-9 p.m.  Come for a festive evening including personal testaments to Steiner's influence and impact as the godfather of Waldorf education.  Bring a contribution to a pot-luck desert, dancing shoes for a round of musical chairs, and a voice of song to help lead us into the evening’s offerings, followed by a circle of conversation.
Events in the Larger Waldorf Community
There are many anthroposophical events in and around the Boston area, and beyond, that support and enliven what we do here at school. Please click "read more" above for frequently updated information and resources from the Anthroposophical Society of Greater Boston, AWSNA, The Pfeiffer Center, and others.

Childhood Odyssey
One of the most famous of the myths which the Greeks handed down to us through Homer is The Odyssey.  The Odyssey tells the story of Odysseus, who has been to war and after twelve years is attempting to find his way home to his wife and son who are waiting for him. He encounters many obstacles along the way, but through his cunning and reason, he manages to make his way. In many cases, he is in fact hindered by the gods instead of helped by them.
He is the archetypal hero, a symbol of the initiation into adulthood. This hero initiation shows the move from the dependent child to the free adult. At this point in the evolution of cultural consciousness, we are seeing that the individual consciousness in the culture resembles something that we are beginning to expect from the fifth grade child. They have been making the same journey as Odysseus, a journey through childhood, and now, as they are approaching puberty, they are moving into a consciousness where they are more aware of themselves and the world around them. The myth provides a model for them as they develop.

Our fifth grade has been working with the Greek myths in Main Lesson, culminating in their class play, Themistocles, which they performed for the school on Friday morning.  Many thanks to the class and Ms. Niiva for their hard work and wonderful performance!
New Director Hired
The School Director Hiring Committee announced with great pleasure on Wednesday that the nearly year-long search process has culminated in the hiring of Robert Schiappacasse. Here’s one important detail you will want to know: Robert’s last name is pronounced “Ship-a-CASS-ee.” Robert and his wife, Heike (pronounced “HI-ka”) will arrive in Lexington from their longtime home of Boulder, Colorado, in May. Interim School Director Joe O’Regan will continue in his interim role through June, and after that, will re-focus his energies in his long-held role as our Finance & Administration Director. Please follow these links for more information: Announcement Letter, Press Release, Hiring Process Description, Job Description.
Waldorf Park in Arlington Meets During Break
Waldorf Park/Arlington will still meet this Wednesday, February 23!  Do you and your young ones have cabin fever? Get out and mingle with other parents and caregivers and their children, ages infancy to three years old in a cozy, welcoming group.  Waldorf Park's satellite class in Arlington will meet on Wednesday at Church of our Saviour, from 9:30-11:00 a.m. There is a fee of $5 per child, with a $10 family maximum.  Please click "read more" for directions.
Coffee House Open Mic
The next Coffee House is almost here!  Join us for an open mic night here in the school café on Friday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m.  Bring your voice, your guitar, or any other musical talent to share with a welcoming and friendly group of eager listeners.  Middle school students and alumni are encouraged to participate!  You're also welcome to just sit back and enjoy the music.  We hope you can join us for what is always a fun evening.  If you have any questions, please email Megan Curtis.

Ski Trip Sign Up
There is a ski trip being planned for Thursday, March 24, the first day of parent teacher conferences. We will leave the school early in the morning, ski for the day at Mt. Snow, and return at night. The cost of the trip is $65 per child or adult and includes the lift ticket and a bus ride to and from the mountain. Children in grades 5-8 are welcome. Fifth and sixth graders will need to be chaperoned (one chaperone per three children). We need 45 people signed up by Friday, March 11 to make the trip happen. You can sign up online; please send an email for more complete instructions. You can also call Boston Ski and Sports directly at 617-789-4070 x 242, and speak to Michael Klein. If you need to sign up more than one person it may be easier to sign up by calling. If you have any questions please call Carol Monzillo at 781-863-0115 or send an email.
Healing and Renewing Ourselves and Our World
The Anthroposophical Society of Greater Boston is planning a Healing Expo at the Lexington Waldorf School for Sunday, April 17. Themes will include healing people, healing nature, and healing community/spiritual life.  It will celebrate Rudolf Steiner's 150th birthday and the healing impulse he brought.

So, we are seeking healers, practitioners (especially local), and community or spiritual leaders of diverse sorts.  Exhibitors may showcase their work/practice by purchasing a booth/table set-up. Several may be asked to deliver a twenty minute talk in a speaker's corner on the stage. These will occur every thirty minutes throughout the day.  Our vision is also to have an Anthroposophical doctor as a special speaker/guest.

As part of our Healing of Nature, we are also hoping for a screening of the documentary Queen of the Sun, a film about the honeybees and their current plight, with a discussion following.

If you would like to be part of the planning group putting together this event, please email Geneva Cooper or call 617 558 3322.
Save Clothes for the Children's Boutique!
Did you go through last fall's mid-weight clothes over the break and find that your child has outgrown some? Please save them for the PCA Children's Boutique!  This sale at December's Holiday Fair raised almost $1700 for the school and we hope to make the event even more successful this year. Starting Friday, April 1, we will have drop boxes for your gently-used kids' clothes and Waldorf and/or wooden toys.
