Welcome Back to School!
Welcome back to school!  The holiday season has passed and we are adjusting to the winter weather as we head into 2011.  We hope you all had a refreshing Winter Break and we wish you the best for the coming year.
On New Year's Eve it is always fitting to remember how past and future are linked together in life and in the existence of the world; how past and future are linked in the whole life of the Cosmos of which man is a part; and how past and future are linked in every fraction of that life with which our own individual existence is interwoven: through all that we were able to do and to think during the past year, and through all that we are able to plan for the coming year.

(Rudolf Steiner, on December 31, 1919)
Winter Sing Thank You
Many thanks to all who attended the Winter Sing in December.  It was a particularly lovely event this year, with about ninety people of all ages attending. A big thank you to Jennifer Smith for leading the evening and to the many students, parents, and faculty who contributed their time and talent to make this annual tradition occur.
Holiday Fair's Waldorf Boutique: A Great Success
Thanks to all of you who made the PCA's first annual Waldorf Boutique so successful. We could not have done it without so many great donations from members of the Waldorf community. Please consider saving your gently used children's clothing and toys for the 2011 Boutique. Donation boxes will be back in the spring.  Please contact Taryn Pinstein with questions.

The Waldorf Boutique Wants You!
If you would like to be a part of the 2011 Waldorf Boutique Committee please contact Taryn Pinstein.
Financial Aid Application Process Streamlined
All Financial Aid applications now need to be completed online at www.sss.nais.org.  Families applying for Financial Aid for the 2011-2012 school year need to apply online no later than Monday, January 31.

In addition, your 2010 1040 tax return needs to be mailed to the address below also no later than Monday, January 31:
School and Student Services
PO Box 449,
Randolph, MA 02368-0449

This is a new streamlined process.  No paperwork should to be sent to the Business Office.

Financial Aid decisions will be made by the Waldorf School of Lexington and communicated by Friday, February 18. To ensure that your application for Financial Aid will be considered, it must be completed by Monday, January 31.  If you have any questions about the Financial Aid process, please contact the Waldorf School Business Office at 781-863-1063.
Annual Giving Coming to a Close January 31
We are now at 53% participation and $97,632 in Annual Giving funds. Our goal is to be at over 90% and $167,000 by Monday, January 31. On reaching 90% participation, we will receive a $20,000 bonus for our school from our anonymous donor. This anonymous donor will also match the increased amount of gifts over last year and all new gifts up to $45,000 in total. The Annual Giving campaign closes on January 31, at which time the anonymous donor match will end.
Second Annual International Potluck
We welcome all Waldorf families to join us in our Second Annual International Potluck! It will be held on February 12, 2011 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the school auditorium.  If you are interested in volunteering for the event or have questions or comments related to it, contact the PCA, Maju Brunette, or Mary Ross.  We'll also have sign-up sheets up soon.  Thank you and we'll see you there!

Gala Spotlight
Starry, Starry Night
Invite your friends to an evening of star gazing and learning with Waldorf parent Amanda Bosh, a lecturer at MIT. You'll tour the constellations; discuss movement in the skies over various time scales; and observe planets, the moon, star clusters, and other astronomical objects. Several astro items used during the star party will be for the winning bidder to keep: a 3-inch reflecting telescope, a planisphere (to aid in identifying constellations throughout the year) and H.A. Rey's book "The Stars," an excellent reference for constellations and basic astronomy.

And in the silent auction:
A charming rattan and leather picnic basket with four sets of utensils, mugs and small plates. Perfect for swinging along the open road...
Open House Posters
Please help spread the word about our Saturday, January 22 Early Childhood Open House. Please click here for a PDF poster you can share with any friends or listservs you feel might be interested. If you would like to be part of our “guerrilla poster squad" and place flyers at a local library or other family friendly location in your town, please contact Holly Kania.
Bullying Prevention & Intervention Plan
The Waldorf School of Lexington has adopted a new Bullying Prevention & Intervention Plan. All schools in Massachusetts (public and non-public) were required to have such a plan in place by December 31, 2010 to meet the new state law requirements.

Much of the language and requirements in this new plan are driven by the new state law. We encourage you to review and get to know the plan (click on "read more" above). If you have any questions or feedback on this plan please contact Susan Cody or Joe O'Regan. This plan will be posted in the Community section of our website and will be included in future editions of our community handbook.
