Super-easy Clothes Donations for the PCA Waldorf Boutique! |

Have you been gathering gently used clothes and Waldorf and wooden toys for the Waldorf Boutique, but you just can't seem to make it down to the Café or nursery to deposit them in the drop-boxes? On Thursday, May 19 we'll make it even easier! From noon to 1:30 p.m., volunteers will be in the horseshoe ready to take things directly from your car as you go about your routine of picking up your children. Please be mindful that the first priority of dismissal is safety, and do not leave your car unattended in the horseshoe to make your donation. |

-Pure Imagination, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
You can see the imagination of our students in the classrooms, on the walls in the hallways, and in their main lesson books. It's apparent during play time, and in the stories that the students write and tell. It's no wonder that our Eighth Grade will be celebrating imagination in the form of their musical, "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." The Eighth Grade is very excited to invite the entire community to their musical this weekend. Roald Dahl's timeless children's tale follows Charlie Bucket, one of five lucky winners of a Golden Ticket, as he explores the fantastic world inside the eccentric Wonka Chocolate Factory. Come meet the imaginative characters, listen to the catchy music, and have a wonderful time. There will be performances on Friday, May 20 and Saturday, May 21, both at 7 p.m. Students, parents, and alumni of all ages are welcome. |

Glorious Olympic Day |

Many thanks to all who participated in the Olympics on Friday. We had beautiful sunny weather for an exciting day of events. Thank you to the Fifth Grade, Ms. Niiva, Mr. Brooks, and the students and faculty of the visiting schools: Monadnock Waldorf School, Cape Cod Waldorf School, Cape Ann Waldorf School, Meadowbrook Waldorf School, and Ecole L'Eau Vive from Quebec. Many thanks as well to all the parents, faculty, staff, and alumni who helped to make the day a success! |

Measles Information from the Health Office |

Measles cases are on the rise in Massachusetts. Please review the fact sheet about measles provided by the Massachusetts Department of Health (click "read more" above) and know the signs of measles. Contact your pediatrician or doctor with any questions or if you suspect someone in your family may have contracted or come in contact with the measles.

MBTA Student Charlie Cards |
|
|
|
 Plastic Student CharlieCards currently being used will be turned off on June 30, and the cards will no longer work after that date. Cards that are turned off will not be accepted for travel on the MBTA system. Please inform students that if they have a balance on their CharlieCard it must be spent down to zero prior to the June 30th deadline. There will be no refunds issued for remaining balances on Student CharlieCards. There is a limit of only $10.00 on Student CharlieCards and therefore there is sufficient time to use up any amount on cards by the end of the school year.
If you want a student CharlieCard for the 2011-2012 school year please inform Luana in the Main Office by Friday, June 24. |

The School Announces Opening of a Third Kindergarten |
|
|
|
 Due to increased demand for enrollment in our kindergarten program, the school announced this week it will be adding a third kindergarten in the 2011-12 academic year. The hiring process for a kindergarten teacher and kindergarten assistant are underway. We are very excited by the growth in our kindergarten program, and we hope parents and friends of the school will spread the word. Please click "read more" above for more information. |

In this Q&A with the Boston Globe, Emerson College Professor Thomas Cooper suggests that even adults need an occasional "media fast" to help regain control.

Fixated by Screens, but Seemingly Nothing Else, by Perri Klass, M.D. (NY Times, 5/9/2011) In her column “18 and Under,” Dr. Klass examines the relationship between screen time and ADHD in today’s youth. She cites Dr. Christopher Lucas, associate professor of child psychiatry at NYU School of Medicine, who suggests that screen time and video gaming develops the wrong kind of attention: “It’s not sustained attention in the absence of rewards,” he said. “It’s sustained attention with frequent intermittent rewards.”
