Eighth Grade to Present the Ninth Annual Viennese Ball |
Our students learn German from first grade onwards, beginning with simple songs and phrases and moving into grammar and conversation in the older grades. The curriculum includes poetry, plays, and artwork along with the more academic aspects of language classes such as conjugation and vocabulary. One of the highlights of the German studies for the students takes place in eighth grade, when they take part in the Viennese Ball.
The event gives the students a chance not only to experience a part of Germanic culture, but also to experience themselves in a new way. Waltzing requires hard work and uprightness, both qualities that the eighth grade curriculum as a whole is working toward for these students. They must practice awareness of a partner as well as the whole group to perform the lovely dances for the entire community.
Please join us at our ninth annual Viennese Ball this Friday, November 5 from 7-10 p.m. The eighth grade students will perform a polonaise and a waltz formation; families, alumni, couples and friends of all ages are also encouraged to enjoy waltzing to the live music led by Andrew Blickenderfer. Wear your fancy dresses and bow ties and enjoy some delicious pastries made by eighth grade parents and the Konditormeister Bakery. Children need to be accompanied and supervised by an adult, and it is recommended that younger children stay only until 9 p.m.
Tickets will be sold in the horseshoe at dismissal time, in Homespun, and the Main Office this week: adults $10 ($15 at door), children $8, or whole family for $30 ($40 at door). This is a fundraiser for the Eighth Grade, sponsored by the German program. We hope to see you there!

Annual Giving: Why We're at Waldorf |
Dear Fellow Parents, Faculty/Staff, and Friends:
Continuing the theme begun in last week's bulletin, I am happy to share with you why we're here: We started when our daughter was an infant in parent-child classes. Adele, and we as a family, have since thrived in an environment that seems magically suited to us. We can't imagine being anywhere else. We and our menagerie of animals moved to a new house to be closer to the school. For me there is no greater joy than to be the father of my singing, knitting, playing, loving, happy child.
Our school thrives because of the many gifts we all give one another. Please consider carefully your ability to give financially and lend your support to our Annual Giving campaign. Our dollars can do so much: For my family, we give to support financial aid, broadening our school's reach to those who might otherwise not be able to enjoy this priceless luxury.
Thank you. Keith Hartt First Grade Parent Development Committee Chair |

Fresh Local Produce Coming to the Waldorf School of Lexington |
Two former Waldorf School families who recently moved to Central Vermont have joined forces to create a new model of delivering highly nutritious food to Boston area families. This sustainable enterprise is called Farmers To You and was inspired by Eva Cahill and Greg Georgaklis, who had three children at the school for six years, and Tom and Laura Furber, whose children began in Lexington and continued at the Cape Ann Waldorf School.
Farmers To You makes weekly pickups of the best food in the area, then delivers individualized bags for specific families. The food is outstanding, very fresh, mostly certified organic or organically grown, and includes vegetables (fresh and lacto-fermented), breads, beef, poultry, bacon, sausages, milk, cream, butter, cheese, yogurt, jams, freshly milled grains, fruit and more. Farmers To You will be making deliveries to the Waldorf School of Lexington on Thursdays, allowing early childhood and elementary parents to gather their bags of food as they pick up their children. The first delivery will be this Thursday, November 4 from 12:30-3 p.m. Any family can place a minimum order of $30 to begin the service, and can either get the same food each week (with no need to go online to change the order) or change their order each week before the ordering deadline. In order to receive food this Thursday, orders needs to be in by midnight tonight, Sunday, October 31. Visit the Farmers To You website to set up an account and place a recurring order. Those who miss this week's deadline can visit the delivery truck when it is at the school to say hello, ask questions, place an order for the following week, or sample food. Farmers To You is honored to be serving the school community.
