Welcoming Diversity
Three clay human forms 300.jpg

The Waldorf School welcomes students, parents, faculty, and staff of all races and sexual orientations, and of all faiths and creeds. We respect and support each individual’s spiritual beliefs and practices.

It is a fundamental goal of our education to bring students to an understanding and experience of the common humanity of all of the world’s people, transcending the stereotypes, prejudices, and divisive barriers of classification by sex, race, religion, nationality, and ability.

This is accomplished through our carefully crafted curriculum, which gives students a deep and rich experience of selected religious traditions and cultural/historical milieus and by school-wide and individual grade celebrations of seasonal festivals.

We reject racism in all its forms, and embrace the principles of common humanity expressed by the founder of Waldorf education:

[We] must cast aside the division into races. [We] must seek to unite people of all races and nations, and to bridge the divisions and differences between various groups of people.

Rudolf Steiner, The Universal Human, Lecture 1.

Supporting Economic Diversity

The Waldorf School of Lexington is committed to promoting a healthy socioeconomic balance in our community. We currently provide several types of support to make this possible. We also intentionally keep our tuition low compared to other pre-K through eighth grade independent schools in the Boston area to make our school affordable to a broader spectrum of families.

The board, faculty, and community are committed to increasing the funds available for assistance over time so that we can truly make Waldorf education affordable to all interested families. Each year, the entire community is asked to contribute according to their means to Annual Giving. These donations are essential to supporting economic diversity. Thanks to the generosity of our community, the funds available for economic diversity have increased over 30 percent in the past five years, enabling us to provide financial aid to more than one-third of our families.
