PCA and Long Range Planning |

Come to celebrate how far we have come and to brainstorm on where we will go next year. The last PCA meeting of the year will be next Monday, June 7, 6:30-7:30 p.m., upstairs in the Handwork Room. The Long Range Planning meeting will follow immediately after from 7:30-9 p.m. in the same location. All are invited to both meetings! |

Library Book Return |

The summer is quickly approaching; our school librarians would like to remind you that all library books must returned by this coming Wednesday, June 10 or before. Parents are asked to replace any lost books, and will be notified by email if this is necessary. Thank you for your help. |

Waldorf High School Chorus Visit |
|
|
|
The Waldorf High School of Mass Bay Chorus will visit on Thursday, June 10 at 2:30 p.m. to sing to Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grades in the auditorium. The chorus includes many of our elementary school graduates. The community is invited to join the middle school at this event. |

Fresh Flowers Needed |

We are in need of cut flowers to decorate for the Eighth Grade Graduation. Please bring any flowers that you would like to share to the auditorium next Friday, June 11 and place them in the buckets provided. Thank you! |

Student MBTA Passes |
|
|
|
Please note that 2009-10 MBTA Student Charlie Cards and Monthly Passes will expire after Wednesday, June 30. Students should use any balance on their cards before that date or it will be lost. In addition, please let Luana know if you want to obtain a student monthly pass for the coming 2010-11 school year ($20/month) by the same date. If you have any questions about student passes or Charlie Cards please contact Luana in the Main Office |

The office will be closed for two weeks in August, beginning Monday, August 16 and reopening Tuesday, August 31. |

Clean Out Your Closets! |

There is still time to donate your gently used children's clothing and wooden/natural toys for the fall PCA Rummage Sale/Fundraiser. Please note that there will be a special section at the sale for high-end children's clothing, so if you are having a hard time parting with those expensive outgrown outfits, rest assured that they will be priced accordingly. Please drop off your donations in the boxes located in the Cafe and Nursery Building lobby or please contact Taryn Pinstein to request a pick-up at (617) 527-4547. |

Satellite Waldorf Playgroup |

"Daisies" is a Waldorf-inspired playgroup in Lincoln starting up in September. The playgroup will be led by Waldorf teacher Tara Rachel Jones and assistant Maureen Ryan and will meet twice a week. "Daisies" follows the Waldorf School of Lexington's yearly calendar, including community festivals. For more information, please contact Tara Rachel Jones. |

This Week at the Waldorf School of Lexington |

 The telling of stories is an essential part of Waldorf pedagogy, and the curriculum from the kindergarten through the twelfth grade is filled with stories. Through the grades, Waldorf students hear fairy tales, Aesop's fables, the Norse, Greek, Roman myths, tales of the lives of great men and women, and stories of the Earth and its mountains and waterways. Teachers learn these stories "by heart" so that they can tell rather than read them and thus bring the story to the children and young people with a living consciousness.
All children love stories. The most rambunctious children will sit quietly in the hope of hearing a story. They know that stories are a nourishment for their souls. The moments of transformation--when the swans return to their human form, when the youngest (virtuous) brother wins the beautiful maiden, when the princess is wakened from her deathlike sleep--lift up their hearts and offer instruction and inspiration to seek the good, to change, and to correct the thing that has gone awry.
Children grow strong in their moral judgement when they are called upon to discern what is right and wrong. Stories offer abundant opportunities for this. The countless stories that Waldorf students experience in their passage through the grades are opportunities to exercise and strengthen their moral sense.

Arts Evening Invitation |

The whole community is invited to join us at the Seventh and Eighth Grade Arts Evening on Thursday, June 10 at 7 p.m. The arts evenings are a nice way to see both what your own children have been working on as well as a way to look forward to what is to come as your children get older.
